These Arc/Info GRID data depict increases and decreases in vegetative cover between 1994 and 1998 (nominal) in the North Coast project area. The exact dates of imagery are contained in the supplementary Change Index Arc/Info coverage. Field data are collected to calibrate levels of change, to check the accuracy of change classes, and to verify cause of change. Browse Graphic URL: http://frap.cdf.ca.gov/data/frapgisdata/browsegraphic/ chg1nc_grid.gif Purpose: The USDA Forest Service and CDF are collaborating on a statewide change detection program to assess changes in California's landscape and provide monitoring data for regional assessment across ownerships and vegetation types. We also identify the cause of changes using current fire perimeter data, USFS harvest/plantation data and fieldwork. By revisiting each project area on a five year schedule, it is possible to detect trends and conversion rates of vegetation. Supplemental Info: Publications for each project area and time frame are available electronically or by mail through CDF-FRAP. Additional information about the program can also be found at http://frap.cdf.ca.gov/projects/ change_detection/changedetectfr.html.
