| Caption: The chart shows embeddedness, or the degree to which spawning gravels are buried, according to stream surveys in Arroyo Corte Madera del Presidio in 2003. Embeddedness of 25% or less is considered suitable for salmonid spawning (CDFG 1998). Embeddedness values were fairly consistent throughout all three reaches, with embeddedness values less than 50% dominating. A fifth category of unsuitable for salmonid spanning is shown in blue. These visual estimates involve some subjectivity, and are not as rigorous in describing spawning and incubation habitat conditions, as are quantitative bulk gravel samples.
