KRIS E. Marin Sonoma: Meta Information Page

This page contains detailed information about a data set in KRIS, including where the original data reside and how to contact the sources for the data. Data sets are linked to the appropriate page by means of the Meta Identifier. Many data sets can be linked to same page by sharing the same Meta Identifier.

Meta IdentifierMCDPW_invert
Type of DataMacroinvertebrate sampling and habitat surveys
OriginatorMarin County Department of Public Works
DescriptionBenthic macroinvertebrate surveys were conducted in four Marin watersheds using the California Stream Bioassessment Procedure (CSBP) protocols developed by the California Department of Fish and Game. In addition, physical habitat quality was assessed for the monitoring reaches using the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Rapid Bioassessment Protocol. In each watershed, sampling stations were located in a range of possible stream environments. All sites were sampled in September 1999 and April 2000 except for sites which were dry during the September sampling. See report for details.

PurposeTo provide baseline information on the macroinvertebrate assemblages with the four watersheds. To evaluate the biological and physical/habitat condition of various sampling sites within the four watersheds. To provide recommendations and strategies for continued monitoring and the use of volunteer monitors.
Data Quality InformationThe associated report states that in general the data collected from the four watersheds showed remarkable consistency between replicates.
Use ConstraintsThe IBI ranking used was developed for first to third order Russian River tributaries. Use in this study may be appropriate due to the proximity of these watersheds to the Russian, although there may be limited use in the lower most sites.
