KRIS West Marin-Sonoma: Meta Information Page

This page contains detailed information about a data set in KRIS, including where the original data reside and how to contact the sources for the data. Data sets are linked to the appropriate page by means of the Meta Identifier. Many data sets can be linked to same page by sharing the same Meta Identifier.

Meta IdentifierGOGAinverts
Type of DataBenthic macroinvertebrate sampling
OriginatorGolden Gate National Recreation Area
DescriptionCollected aquatic macroinvertebrate data on Redwood Creek and eastern tributaries of Bolinas Lagoon using a standard serber sampler (1 sq. foot) and equal interval time sampling. Although analysis has some similarities to the California Stream Bioassessment Protocol (CSBP), the collection methods varied somewhat.
AreaRedwood Creek, Eastern Bolinas Lagoon tribs

PurposeThe purpose of the study was to evaluate the relative condition of the aquatic habitat, to begin to generate a species list of aquatic macroinvertebrates, to gauge the relative abundance of fish food organisms, and to test for associations of organisms and communities and habitat parameters.
Data Quality InformationSerber sampler may sample a smaller area than standard CSBP. GOGA personnel picked organisms then sent sample to Jon Lee, aquatic entomologist. Samples in 1995 and 1997 were in different months (Aug/Nov).
Use ConstraintsCollections should be viewed as powerful in analysis between sites but not between years. Not directly comparable to CSBP samples from other streams.
Supplemental InformationRedwood Creek and Bolinas Lagoon tribs have also had studies on fish, habitat and water quality. See Fisheries Assessment for Bolinas Lagoon Tributaries Within the GGNRA, 1995-2000 for Bolinas Lagoon data.
