KRIS West Marin-Sonoma: Meta Information Page

This page contains detailed information about a data set in KRIS, including where the original data reside and how to contact the sources for the data. Data sets are linked to the appropriate page by means of the Meta Identifier. Many data sets can be linked to same page by sharing the same Meta Identifier.

Meta IdentifierMMWDjuv
Type of DataJuvenile salmonid population monitoring using electrofishing
OriginatorMarin Municipal Water District
DescriptionMMWD has conducted juvenile electrofishing of coho salmon and steelhead trout annually since 1993. Survey sites include mainstem Lagunitas Creek, Devils Gulch, and San Geronimo Creek. Block nets and minimum 3-pass methods used. Data includes abundance estimates density calculations for some years. Sites varied in length 100-200 feet. Some comparisons are made to California Department of Fish and Game sampling in 1970, 1980, 1982-1988, and 1990 but earlier sampling methods vary. Note that average densities reported in the 1970-2000 Abundance topics differ from the 1982-1986 Abundance topics because values from different sites were used to calculate average densities to allow comparison among years and varying sampling methods.

Date of Content End10/31/01
Maint. and Update Freq.Presently annual
PurposeTo track relative abundance of standing crops of juvenile coho and steelhead over time.
Data Quality InformationElectrofishing quality is high. Sites were not chosen randomly but instead an attempt to repeat representative sites selected by DFG in 1970 and 1982.
Use ConstraintsPopulation estimates based on samples are not precise, but more accurate since application of habitat stratification in 1995. Caution must be used in comparing CDFG data since methods of collection and areas sampled vary.
