| Caption: The chart shows the percent of stream length comprised of three different habitat types and overall stream length for six reaches along mainstem Redwood Creek and one reach in tributary, Fern Creek, surveyed in the summer of 1995 by the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GOGA). The total habitat distance measured included the summation of habitats in secondary channels and adjacent habitat types. Pool habitat is abundant except in the Dipsea-Bridge 4 Reach and in Fern Creek. GOGA (2002) states that Reach Dipsea-Bridge 4 has extensive bank protection. GOGA also notes that Big Lagoon-Pacific Way, which has the greatest percentage of pools, is dominated by long main channel pools from the mouth to the Muir Beach parking lot, but shallow water habitats from the parking lot to the Pacific Way Bridge. The former portion of this reach appears to be a major holding area for run-back steelhead adults. See Info Links for more information. | |
