New Features in the KRIS Program

Since the very first KRIS system, for Klamath-Trinity, was built in 1998, the KRIS team has been working to improve the program. Each new project has involved additional programming to improve access to information and ease of use. Here is a highlight of some features that have been added since Battle Creek Version 1.0 was released. Samples shown are from KRIS Battle Creek Version 2.0 and KRIS Klamath-Trinity Version 3.0.

KRIS Map Viewer: The KRIS version 2.0 includes built-in map viewing capability that allows those who have loaded KRIS from CD to see spatial data, and to select, edit and rearrange  themes in various map projects. This program advancement was achieved by merging ESRI's Map Objects LT into the KRIS software. All maps also have annotations which explain theme contents.

(124795 bytes)  All Contents available in Web Pages and on the Internet: All KRIS projects now include an alternative way for viewing the charts, pictures, maps and metadata in the database - in the form of web pages. This means that KRIS contents are now available on the Internet, and to people using Macintosh computers. Loading the KRIS program on your computer from compact disc has many advantages for map viewing and speed of access for large files, such as large documents or photos.
Improved Helps and Tutorials: KRIS Version 3.0 has a complete Help system, which appears when desktop users press F1 on their keyboard. These Helps provide full, easy to understand explanations of whatever type of page or tab (Chart, Table, Map) the user has selected. The Tutorials in KRIS are step-by-step lessons on how to add content to KRIS, how to transfer zipped Topics over the Internet and everything full fledged KRIS users need to know.
kris_search.gif (46752 bytes) Search KRIS Contents: Now you can search the entire contents of KRIS systems on keyword and see every occurrence, extract quotes, open documents and more. Just click the new Search Tab at the top upper right of the Area/Topic page. This is a phenomenal tool for research or a quick hunt for a fun fact.
build_table_new.jpg (192999 bytes)  Improved Build Table Functions: The new KRIS Build Table allows many new data calculations which are of particular use in working with temperature data. You can now select calculation of floating weekly average or maximum, and these columns will be calculated for all years and all locations in your Source Table database.
