KRIS Big River: Meta Information Page

This page contains detailed information about a data set in KRIS, including where the original data reside and how to contact the sources for the data. Data sets are linked to the appropriate page by means of the Meta Identifier. Many data sets can be linked to same page by sharing the same Meta Identifier.

Data Set Namehtcfish_4tot.dbf, htcfish_8tot.dbf, htcfish_big.dbf, htcfish_trend.dbf
Date of Content Start6/1/93
Date of Content End10/15/00
Maint. and Update Freq.Annual
PurposeTo track the distribution and abundance of aquatic vertebrates.
Data Quality InformationHigh
Use ConstraintsCan not examine population structure, or fitness of salmonids because age-classes were not distinguished in samples. Basin-wide estimates involve large extrapolations from minimal sampling and do not involve a valid variance component.
Supplemental InformationElectrofishing data from 2000 was apparently not worked up into basin-wide estimate in favor of direct count by snorkeling. The 2000 extensive dive survey was lead by David Hines and used snorkelers to count coho salmon juveniles throughout their entire range in the Ten Mile Watershed. Hines stated that the snorkeler counts in 2000 corroborated the electrofishing from that year.
CountiesMendocino
Other Citation DetailsGeorgia-Pacific and then Campbell group published reports in 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, and 1999 that present and discuss this data. The reports were prepared primarily for the North Coast Water Quality Control Board, and can be found in the KRIS Bibliography under the authors, Ambrose and Hines.
