KRIS Garcia River: Chart Page

Area Basin-wide/General
Topic Fish: Steelhead Juvenile Catch at All Garcia River Sites

Caption:  This chart shows the species of fish and number captured using electrofishing at various locations on the mainstem Garcia River in 1987 and 1996. Steelhead dominated all samples and yearlings (1+) were present in the mainstem at all locations and more numerous than young of the year (0+) in two samples. These results indicate that the mainstem Garcia is suitable for rearing for this species throughout the year. Both the samples in which older age steelhead were dominant were collected in fall, when older age steelhead may move into the mainstem from tributaries (Craig Bell, personal communication). No block nets were used in these samples so no density or standing crop comparisons can be made. Data were collected and provided by the California Department of Fish and Game. See InfoLinks for more information.
