This photo shows the old Garcia River Bridge along the coast highway with a horse and buggy on the bridge. The fence extending into the river was likely to intercept logs escaped from log drives to the mill upstream. Note the lack of vegetation on the stream banks adjacent to the bridge. Photo provided courtesy of the Held-Poage Memorial Home and Mendocino Historical Society, Ukiah, California, from the Robert Lee Collection. #03656 Harold Hunter.

This photo shows a reinforced Garcia River Bridge after the 1906 earthquake. Note photographer W. W. Fairbanks horse and runabout in river bed. The willows lining the banks of the river look, from this angle, to be very similar to riparian vegetation today. Photo provided courtesy of the Held-Poage Memorial Home and Mendocino Historical Society, Ukiah, California, from the Robert Lee Collection. #03658 Point Arena Lighthouse Keepers.
