Topic Fish: Chinook Downstream Trapping SF Trinity & Hayfork Cr

Caption:  The California Department of Fish and Game has operated downstream migrant traps to enumerate juvenile salmon and steelhead in the South Fork Trinity River basin during the late 1980's and early 1990's. Trap data shown above is from Forest Glen on the mainstem South Fork Trinity and lower Hayfork Creek in 1994 and was part of the CDFG spring Chinook assessment project. The number of downstream migrant Chinook salmon in the South Fork Trinity increased steadily in April with peaks in the first and last weeks in May. Downstream migrants in the main South Fork far out-number those in Hayfork Creek. The number of juvenile Chinook salmon sampled was high because of the high escapement the previous year.
