| Caption: The floating weekly average water temperature of Madden Creek at the South Fork Trinity is shown above for the years 1995-1997. The maximum weekly average temperature (MWAT) exceeded the threshold for suitability for coho salmon according to Welsh et al. (2001) for only a brief period in 1996. The USFS has spotted coho spawning in Madden Creek in recent years. The lower reaches of Madden Creek and its cold-water plume into the South Fork Trinity provide a vital summer refugia for other salmonid species as well. Similar temperature thresholds have not been confirmed for the Klamath Basin and therefore threshold is shown only for reference. Data provided by Six Rivers National Forest. Data trimmed for outliers by the Forest Science Project (now known as the Institute for Forest and Watershed Management). | |
