Area Upper Klamath
Topic PH: Maximum Daily A Canal (BOR) 1992

Caption:  The maximum daily pH of the A Canal in 1992 is displayed above. Note that pH levels fluctuate from about 7.5, which is only slightly basic to a high of 10.25 in late June which is highly alkaline. Algae blooms in Upper Klamath Lake consume large amounts of carbon dioxide and help drive the acid-base balance towards extremely basic conditions. It is highly likely that the high pH in the A Canal is in response to such an algae bloom. The water in the A Canal is mixed with Lost River water in the Klamath Project; therefore, the A Canal may effect the pH of the Lost River in California.
