INSTITUTE FOR FISHERIES RESOURCES GIS TECHNICAL WORK GROUP -- GIS METADATA LIBRARY: Garcia/Navarro/Russian/Gualala/Big COVERAGE NAME: temp89_01.shp METADATA FILE: temp89_01.shp.txt METADATA FILE DATE: March 24, 2003 METADATA PREPARER: Eli Asarian Institute for Fisheries Resources (IFR) 791 Eighth Street Ste. N Arcata, CA 95521 (707) 822-9428 COVERAGE DESCRIPTION: This shapefile contains locations of Mendocino Redwoods Company (MRC) temperature monitoring stations for the years 1989-2001 across their entire holdings. Data includes many watersheds, including Garcia River, Navarro River, Russian River, Big River, South Fork Eel River, Albion River, and many small coastal streams in Sonoma and Mendocino Counties. Methods: The methods that MRC used to generate this spatial data are unknown, but the points all seem to line up well with 1:24,000 topo maps, so I suspect that they were generated using a GPS or hand mapped by skilled field workers. ORIGINAL PROJECTION: ???????Paul, can you fill this in????????? DATA DICTIONARY: NOTE: Items common to all ARC/INFO coverages: LENGTH, AREA, PERIMETER COVER_ (#), and COVER _ID (-ID) are not described here. Structure for attribute table Column Column name 5 EXPR1002 6 STRMTMP97_ 7 STREAM_NAM 8 SITE_NUM 9 X_COORD 10 Y_COORD 11 LONGITUDE 12 LATITUDE EXPR1002: unknown STRMTMP97_: unknown STREAM_NAM: The creek on which the temperature monitoring station was located SITE_NUM: MRC's short code for the site, ie 41-1 X_COORD: UTM east in meters Y_COORD: UTM north in meters LONGITUDE: decimal degree longitude LATITUDE: decimal degree latitude DATA QUALITY ASSESSMENT: Data quality is unknown, because the method MRC used the generate this coverage are unknown. The points all seem to line up well with 1:24,000 topo maps, so I suspect that they were generated using a GPS or hand mapped by skilled field workers. ------------------------------- DOCUMENTATION DATES: August, 2002: Additional attribute fields (STREAM_NAM, X_COORD, Y_COORD, LONGITUDE, LATITUDE) were hard-joined to attribute table using ArcView (join, then convert to shapefile commands) from an MS Excel Spreadsheet obtained from MRC titled "SiteUTMS.xls" Contact Name: Eli Asarian Institute for Fisheries Resources (IFR) 791 Eighth Street Arcata, CA 95521 Contact's Phone: (707) 822-9428 August, 2002: Reprojected to UTM NAD27 (no shift), and clipped to KRIS Project study area.
