Mouth of the Noyo River before levee construction. The mouth of the river appears to be flowing near the cliffs, similar to the Garcia River mouth configuration. The photo is circa 1900-1920. The estuary at this point must have been considerably filled in by sediment from steam donkey and railroad logging. Caption from Robert Lee Collection: "Remains of A. W. McPherson's Noyo Steam Mill--long abandoned-- on Noyo Flat near location of present highway bridge. Shut down in 1878 when he went bankrupt." Courtesy Held-Poage Historical Library, Ukiah. Robert J. Lee Collection. Ft. Bragg Guest House: 01118.

"Building the jetty-photo prior to 1923. Note small locomotive out on jetty." The extensive mud flats are likely in part a result of sedimentation from extensive early logging in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Courtesy Held-Poage Historical Library, Ukiah. Robert J. Lee Collection. Shattuck: 01132.

"Early view from the jetty looking upstream." The jetty at the mouth of the Noyo River was constructed circa 1923 so this photo is probably from the mid to late 1920's. Large quantities of sediment are likely the result of sediment contributions from earlier logging. Courtesy Held-Poage Historical Library, Ukiah. Robert J. Lee Collection. Albertson: 01133. Noyo 23:"The Noyo Bridge under construction in 1949. Hi-line shows just above the bridge. Noyo chute house shows out on the point." There is no record of dredging prior to 1952, though the jetty was constructed circa 1923. It is possible that sediment yield was down during this period, as the watershed recovered from early logging, making dredging un-necessary. Courtesy Held-Poage Historical Library, Ukiah. Robert J. Lee Collection. McNamee: 01134.

"Dredging the Noyo circa 1953. Good view of North Point." It appears that explosives were used to loosen sediment in the Noyo estuary to facilitate dredging. Campbell: 04415. Courtesy Held-Poage Historical Library, Ukiah. Robert J. Lee Collection.
