This photo of the lower Noyo River was taken from the Georgia Pacific access road. The stream gradient in this reach is very low. Hardwoods such as willow and alder border the stream with Redwood in upslope areas.

Lower Noyo River just upstream of the intake for the city of Ft Bragg water supply. The riparian vegetation includes redwoods, hardwoods and pampas grass. The latter is a non-native, invasive species that typically colonizes disturbed areas. Pampas grass shows up as grass in Landsat vegetation and timber type images.

Vertical shot showing same scene as Picture #2. While large trees immediately next to the stream channel have been protected from timber harvest, the photo shows that there is no overstory further back from the stream as a result of logging.

This view from along the GP road in the Lower Noyo River basin shows numerous young, small diameter trees in the foreground and medium sized trees of an older age class at a distance in the photo.
