Topic Fish: Duffy Gulch CDFG 1967 Net Samples

Caption:  Bar graph showing numbers of captures steelhead and coho salmon. When the California Department of Fish and Game staff surveyed Duffy Gulch on September 27, 1967, they netted 41 coho salmon juveniles and 21 steelhead trout. No other fish species were captured. The crew noted that fish were stressed as a result of lack of cover and pool depth and likely to be growing slowly. Nonetheless, CDFG stated that Duffy Gulch: "-Provides the Noyo River system with 1.05 mi. of good spawning grounds and 1.75 miles of fair nursery area." Pools constituted only an estimated 30% of habitats. Substrates were: "boulders 10%, fine rubble 30%, coarse gravel 40%, fine gravel 20%." See InfoLinks for more information and for a link to the CDFG Stream Survey from which these data were taken.
