This photo of the Redwood Creek estuary is from 1988. After the 1964 Flood, the Redwood Creek channel was rip-rapped and confined between levees to a point just above its entry into the Pacific. Accumulated sediment cuts off the sloughs, blocking fish access and preventing connection to once productive Sand Cache Creek to the north. Image courtesy of Redwood National Park.

Redwood Creek Estuary circa 1990. Sand Cache Creek is isolated from the estuary in summer by a large sediment plug that deposits off the end of the levee. Image courtesy of Redwood National Park.
