What is KRIS?

The KRIS database pulls together maps, data tables, charts, photographs and bibliographic materials into an easy-to-use, PC-based computer program. KRIS is designed to capture watershed data relevant to fisheries and water quality so that it can be shared quickly and easily among agencies, private land owners and citizens.

The Klamath Resource Information System (KRIS) is a Windows-based computer program that allows easy access to data tables, charts, photographs and bibliographic materials relevant to fisheries, water quality and watershed management. KRIS is custom built and is disseminated free on CD. There are separate KRIS Map projects for each watershed which require ArcView software to operate, although some elements of the map projects may appear as pictures in the KRIS database.

The KRIS system was devised in the Klamath and Trinity River basins to help measure trends in water quality and track the success of the Klamath River and Trinity River Restoration Programs. Basin cooperators have been trained to keep KRIS current in their own watersheds. KRIS has also been used to support restoration in Battle Creek, a tributary of the Sacramento River and to aid agency and public evaluation of the Pacific Lumber Company's Habitat Conservation Plan (KRIS Coho).

Free copies of Version 2.0 of the Klamath-Trinity project CD are available from the Trinity County RCD (530) 623-6004 (ask for Kelly Sheen).
