Topic Aquatic Insects: Total IBI score in Corte Madera Creek 1999-2000

Caption:  Benthic macroinvertebrate sampling has been conducted for streams in Marin County draining to the San Francisco Bay by the Marin County Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program. This graph shows the total Index of Biological Integrity (IBI) scores at several reaches in the Corte Madera Creek watershed for September 1999 and April 2000. Samples were collected and analyzed by the Sustainable Land Stewardship Institute (SLSI) and provided by the Marin County Department of Public Works. The reference value shown in the graph provides a regional comparison to preliminary scores developed by the California Department of Fish and Game for the Russian River Index of Biological Integrity using California Stream Bioassessment Procedure for first to third order streams (Harrington et al., 1999). This study found that IBI scores between 6 and 11 reflected poor biotic conditions (6 is the minimum score possible), although SLSI states that this reference may have limited use in the lower-most sites (i.e. CM1). See Info Links for more information and Map to view the sampling locations.
