KRIS Battle Creek: Meta Information Page

This page contains detailed information about a data set in KRIS, including where the original data reside and how to contact the sources for the data. Data sets are linked to the appropriate page by means of the Meta Identifier. Many data sets can be linked to same page by sharing the same Meta Identifier.

Type of DataGIS data assembled and organized to support Battle Creek Watershed Assessment
OriginatorKier Associates
DescriptionGIS data assembled and organized into a KRIS Battle Creek Version 2.0 by a team from Kier Associates, which has been working on watershed information projects throughout northwestern California. The KRIS Battle Creek V 2.0 project drew together electronic mapping data from all available sources in Arc Info and Arc View that are useful for this analysis, assembled metadata, and ran queries appropriate for risk analysis for upland erosion or cumulative watershed effects.

Request LogData were assembled in 2001-2002 and used to support Terraqua Inc's upland assessment. GIS project finalized in late 2003 and integrated into KRIS Battle Creek V 2.0 in 2004.
Access ConstraintsNone except software and extensions to run projects in ESRI formats.

Maint. and Update Freq.Battle Creek GIS projects related to KRIS projects updated as budgets acquired by BCWC
Serial NameGIS Data
PurposeData were assembled to support the Battle Creek Watershed Assessment but were also to be captured in KRIS Battle Creek V 2.0 for use by the public and agencies.
Data Quality InformationGIS analysis constrained by lack of 10 m DEM, timber harvest data and accurate stream hydrology with proper center lines. Roads data are variable in accuracy and likely under-represent disturbance (does not include skids, spurs, landings)
Use ConstraintsNone except to follow constraints stated by metadata and understand bounds of fair use.

TitleUse of Spatial Data for Battle Creek Watershed Conditions Assessment
AbstractGIS data used to assess upland conditions in Battle Creek and to advise Terraqua Inc of potential sediment sources and other watershed conditions that could cause impacts to aquatic systems. The Battle Creek WA does not always reflect Kier Associates (2003) assessments or recommended references or thresholds for risk. Further discussions are available in KRIS Battle V 2.0 Background pages.
Other Citation DetailsKier Associates (2003) offers an analysis of patterns in upland data available for Battle Creek using "best science" literature from the Sierra Nevada, but also the Pacific Northwest. GIS data for the Battle Creek watershed may be incomplete or of variable accuracy, but in sum they provide reconnaissance tools for understanding cumulative watershed effects potential from land use.
