The image above shows USFS vegetation stand types for the riparian zone of the lower of the Grasshopper Creek Calwater planning watershed based on a 1994 Landsat image. The stand types are only accurate at the one-hectare scale and the buffer width is 90 meters. Much of the mainstem Buckeye Creek has relatively large diameter conifers (Med/Large 20-29.9") as it passes west through the Grasshopper Creek Calwater, but Grasshopper Creek itself (lower center) has a mix of Small Trees (5-11.9" diameter) and Small/Medium Trees (12-19.9" diameter). The change scene detection from 1994 and 1998 Landsat imagery shows encroachment in the riparian zone of upper Franchini Creek (at left) and its lowest tributary. See Info Links for more information.
