KRIS Humboldt Bay: Chart Page

Area Salmon Creek
Topic Aquatic Insects: Pct. Dominant Taxa Salmon Cr, 1994

Caption:  This chart was derived from aquatic macroinvertebrate data collected in 1994 by the PALCO. The aquatic insect community as indicated by Percent Dominant Taxa in Salmon Creek fell within ranges of low to slight impacts, when using the Russian River IBI reference (Harrington, 1999). The Percent Dominant Taxa index is the percentage of the sample dominated by one species. Upper Salmon Creek is more dominated by one species than the other stations. Relatively healthy scores in 1994 of aquatic insect indexes in Salmon Creek indicate that the clean water coming off remaining old forests is helping to buffer sediment impacts from disturbed areas.
