Topic Fish: Fall Chinook Tributary Runs 1999

Caption:  The chart above shows fall Chinook salmon escapement estimates for Middle Klamath Basin tributaries for the 1999-spawning season. The 1999 season showed similar results to 1998 but a dramatic decline from 1995-1997 run sizes. For example, Camp Creek fell from 900 fall Chinook spawners in 1997 to 121 in 1999. Grider Creek showed the highest returns in 1999 with 122 followed by Camp Creek and Beaver Creek (99 spawners). The very poor ocean conditions in 1998 (El Niņo) may have in part negatively affected returns. The return of the three year old brood might also have been diminished by the January 1997 storm which caused extensive damage in some Middle Klamath tributaries.
