The boulder clusters in the photo were part of fish habitat enhancement funded by the California Wildlife Conservation Board and installed by the U.S. Forest Service, Klamath National Forest, Oak Knoll Ranger District. Work was completed in 1992 and evaluation photos taken in 1994. The cluster at center-left is made of smaller boulders, making it more susceptible to transport in large flows. The wood structures shown in the photo were cabled to large boulders already in the stream to provide cover for juvenile salmonids. Their small size makes it unlikely that they survived the January 1997 storm event. These projects were part of fish habitat enhancement funded by the California Wildlife Conservation Board and installed by the U.S. Forest Service, Klamath National Forest, Oak Knoll Ranger District. Work was completed in 1992 and evaluation photos taken in 1994. Photo taken on Beaver Creek, 7464 feet above its junction with the Klamath River. Note encroaching riparian vegetation that has resulted from several consecutive dry years (1986-1994). Photo courtesy of USFS Oak Knoll RD.
