Caption: This chart shows the floating weekly maximum water temperatures in Black Bear Creek during the summers of 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002. Note that the temperature in Black Bear Creek remained below the level stressful for salmonids every year, except for a brief period in July 2002. The mouth of Bear Creek provides a cold water refugia for salmonids during the heat of mid summer. Data were collected from automated temperature sensors called Hobotemps, which were anchored in moving water in the shade. Hobotemps were monitored by students at the three river schools, community volunteers, and paid staff of the Salmon River Restoration Council. Click on Picture to see photographs of Hobotemp sites.
