This photo is of the riparian zone of the Shasta River on the Peters Ranch prior to fencing project to exclude cattle.

This photo shows the Peters property fence project is just upstream of the Interstate 5 Bridge just north of Yreka. Note improved vegetation in the riparian zone inside the fence.

Peters property willow recovery after cattle were fenced out of riparian zone of Shasta River. The sprouts next toLinda Webb at center are the result of only two years growth.

Recontoured banks have revegetated decreasing the risk of erosion during high flows. Riparian fencing has also helped accelerate recovery of stabilizing grasses, trees and shrubs.

The 1997 flood caused slight flood damage to this gate of stock water access on the Peter's ranch requiring about $50 for repair. Damage could have been prevented had the gates been secured more tightly during high water.
