Caption:  The California Department of Fish and Game rates each surveyed pool for the amount and quality of shelter provided for salmonid fishes. No streams of the Southern Mattole had average pool shelter ratings exceeding 100 which is a CDFG benchmark for good coho habitat. See Info Links for more information. According to CDFG benchmarks for percent pool habitat, most tributaries of the northern Mattole provide poor habitat (<25%), and no streams provide good habitat (>50%).
