Looking down from the shoulder of Highway 1 at the mouth of Greenwood Creek. The windswept coast discourages conifer colonization but conifers occur immediately upstream as the canyon blocks the wind. Photo provided by Pat Higgins, February 15, 2002.

Greenwood Creek in its lower reaches of what would likely be a lagoon in the summer. Alder border the stream and comprise most of the riparian on the valley floor in upstream areas at left. Photo provided by Pat Higgins, February 15, 2002.

Close up of Greenwood Creek and people getting out on a winter day for a picnic. The large wood in the stream may provide good cover for juvenile salmonids in summer if the stream mouth closes and this area becomes submerged. Photo provided by Pat Higgins, February 15, 2002.

This photo shows the mouth of Greenwood Creek. Note the linear feature below and to the right of the center of the photo. This is likely the remnant of log crib used during early logging days. Photo provided by Pat Higgins, February 15, 2002.

This photo shows the mouth of Greenwood Creek open to the ocean. Adult steelhead can easily enter the stream during these conditions but would likely wait for high tide to cross the sand bar into the creek. Large logs of coniferous trees can be seen near the creek but most large woody debris on the beach is shorter pieces of old, weathering saw logs. Photo provided by Pat Higgins, February 15, 2002.

This mouth of Greenwood Creek is just out of this picture to the left. Majestic rock sits offshore in the azure Pacific with a rain squall sweeping up from the south. Photo provided by Pat Higgins, February 15, 2002.
