Topic	Habitat: Maximum Pool Depths for Redwood Creek and Tribs

 

Caption:  The California Department of Fish and Game measured maximum depth for every pool surveyed. Pools with depths in excess of 2.5 feet were judged by CDFG in NCWAP to provide higher quality salmonid rearing and holding habitat. Others, such as Reeves (1988) and Brown et al. (1994) found that three feet deep was a significant breakpoint. Streams are sorted by size because large streams (top) naturally provide deeper pools than small streams (bottom).
