Topic Fish: Coho Historical vs. Recent Distribution in Russian River Basin

Caption:  This chart shows a comparison of the distribution of coho salmon in the Russian River basin between three time periods: historical (pre-1993), 1993-2002, and 2000-2002. There was a substantial decline in coho distribution between historical and current times. During 2000-2002, coho juveniles were found only in Green Valley Creek, Dutch Bill Creek, Mark West Creek, and Redwood Creek. Adults were also seen at the fish hatchery on Dry Creek in 2000. Data were provided as part of the Russian River GIS by Circuit Rider Productions but data originate with the California Department of Fish and Game. Surveys covered all known coho streams in 2000-2002 because of a pending listing under California's Endangered Species Act. Coho may occur in more streams than shown here, because they may occur only in some years or may have resided in other reaches of streams not surveyed. See InfoLinks for more information. See Map for data in spatial form.
