This image shows the water storage facilities and service areas that serve the Sonoma County Water Agency and its customers. Major impoundments include Lake Mendocino and Lake Sonoma, but also flows from the Russian are augmented by addition of flow from Lake Pillsbury and the upper Eel River. This photo shows Lake Mendocino with Ukiah in the background and snow on the hills. The East Fork is flowing into the reservoir at right and its flow is enhanced by additions of Eel River water which is pumped from the eel and through Potter Valley (see next Topic). In order to recharge ground water, the mainstem Russian River is impounded with a rubber dam in the Mirabel Recreation Area and water is also diverted into the Wohler ponds adjacent to the river above the bend at left. Rainey collectors are used to pump ground water adjacent to the ponds. Image from the Sonoma County Water Agency.

This aerial photo shows the Wohler ponds along the Russian River during winter as indicated by the high flows and turbid water conditions. The Mirabel inflatable dam is only erected in summer so is not evident in this picture. Photo provided by the Sonoma County Water Agency.
