Topic	Fish: Estuary Beach Trawl Sample Totals 1999

 

Caption:  This Chart shows the various species caught in the Russian River estuary using an otter trawl net at four sites from July to November 1999. Station 1 is closest to the ocean while Station 4 is furthest upstream. Prickly sculpin, Sacramento sucker, Pacific herring, threespine stickleback and black rockfish were the top five species from a total of 11 species captured in 1999. Note that freshwater species like Sacramento suckers do not occur at Station 1, which is nearest the ocean (see Picture tab for map). Longfin smelt had not been documented in the Russian River estuary prior to 1996, when this study began (Merritt Smith Consulting, 2001). Steelhead were captured at Station 3 where half of the sample was conducted in shallower, freshwater areas. Study conducted for Sonoma County. For more information, click on the InfoLinks tab.
