KRIS Russian River: Chart Page

Area Guerneville
Topic Fish: Estuary Juvenile Steelhead Length 1998 Aug-November

Caption:  This chart shows the length of the juvenile steelhead in seining samples collected by Merritt Smith Consulting in the Russian River estuary from August through November 1998. Fish ranged in length from 90 mm to just under 200 mm. Yearling and older steelhead are generally those over 100 mm (4 inches) with two year old fish usually over 150 mm (6 inches). Size classes are shown in different colors: young of the year are blue; yearlings light blue; two year old steelhead dark green; and three year olds in light green. The age class representation is very similar to the 1996 samples except for the absence of three year olds (>200 mm/8 in.). See InfoLinks for more information on sampling methods and findings of study by Merritt Smith Consulting (1999) conducted for Sonoma County.
