KRIS Russian River: Meta Information Page

This page contains detailed information about a data set in KRIS, including where the original data reside and how to contact the sources for the data. Data sets are linked to the appropriate page by means of the Meta Identifier. Many data sets can be linked to same page by sharing the same Meta Identifier.

Meta IdentifierEPA_lndcvr
Type of DataEPA Landsat Land Cover data by proportion of Calwater area
OriginatorUSEPA/USGS
DescriptionThese data were derived from a 1992 Landsat image for the purpose of discerning land use impacts and landscape condition. One focus of this project is urbanizing or industrial areas because those types of land use have the greatest impacts on nearby streams. Classifications from EPA have been condensed to 14 categories from 20 by the IFR KRIS project to make for easier use in analysis.

PurposeThis land cover data set was produced as part of a cooperative project between the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) to produce a consistent, land cover data layer for the conterminous U.S. based on 30-meter Landsat thematic mapper (TM) data
Data Quality InformationConsidered a good general land cover classification on a large regional scale. Date of Landsat (1992) are now 10 yrs old. Crop types in the irrigated areas were difficult to reliably distinguish; row crops are likely to be under represented.
Use ConstraintsNone except to pay attention to 30 meter pixel resolution and currency of image when used in land use planning.
