This map image shows the upper Russian River mainstem reaches surveyed by the Sonoma County Water Agency from July-September 2002 with the number of steelhead observations per mile (upper half of Figure 1 from SCWA, 2003). The Russian River in the Ukiah reach generally had higher numbers of steelhead closer to the tail water releases at Lake Mendocino, but sightings were much more frequent in the Canyon reach between Hopland and Cloverdale. This map image shows the lower half of Figure 1 from SCWA (2003) showing the Russian River mainstem reaches from Hopland to below Healdsburg with the number of steelhead observations per mile. This segment contained artificial cascade and riffle habitats at the Norgard Dam and downstream weir. A deep pool is located below the dam (top). This segment contained entirely flatwater habitat with open to dense riparian canopy and gravel bars vegetated with sandbar willow and water primrose. One steelhead was observed in this segment."
