KRIS Battle Creek: Chart Page

Area South Fork Battle
Topic Temperature: Average at South Fork Mouth; 1988-89, 1995-97

Caption:  This temperature graph shows daily average water temperatures in the lower South Fork Battle Creek for 1989-1990 and 1995-1997. Thresholds shown on the graph above are for the egg life history stage before July 1 for winter chinook, spring chinook eggs after September 15 and for holding spring chinook adults during summer (July-September). The water temperature in most years exceeds thresholds for incubating winter chinook salmon eggs (58 F = stress, 62 F = lethal). Temperatures also typically exceed water temperature thresholds for adult spring chinook salmon stress (62 F) and even acute stress levels (66.2 F). This reach is expected to contribute only modestly to winter run and spring chinook habitat even under restored conditions (see Picture).
