Topic Sediment: D50 Values for Gualala Main and South Fork Basin

Caption:  The Chart above shows the median particle size distribution of the streambed at several locations in the lower South Fork and mainstem Gualala River. Location codes are GUAL = mainstem Gualala, SFG = lower SF Gualala, and PW = Big Pepperwood Creek (lower Gualala trib). All values except two within Big Pepperwood Creek are under the suggested TMDL range. Typically, larger streams have a larger median particles. This chart shows a D50 range in light blue which overlaps with the Knopp (1993) 95% confidence interval for median particle size of control streams or those that had at least 40 years rest from logging. Data provided by Gualala Redwoods Inc. as part of timber harvest plans. See Info Links for more information and links to bibliographic resources.
