KRIS Humboldt Bay: Chart Page

Area Freshwater Creek-Ryan Slough
Topic Fish: Cumulative Coho Spawning Index South Fork 1986-89, 1994-98

Caption:  This chart shows the number of live coho salmon, coho carcasses and coho redds in the South Fork Freshwater Creek from 1986-1989 and 1994 through 1998. Metrics for all three coho indices may be skewed low in years when high flows and/or turbidity make surveys infeasible; consequently, these data cannot be used for population estimates. Some redundancy in counts may have occurred where fish were counted as live in one survey and as a carcass in subsequent counts, but the cumulative index is useful in understanding spawning activity trends in the South Fork. Data provided by the Humboldt Fish Action Council and Institute for River Ecosystems. See Info Links for more information.
