The roof of the house next door shows again in this Anderson Creek photo at the bottom of the Tebbutt property in 1995 after two major storm events. Note that soil around the tree at right was starting to erode but the tree held. Cottonwoods can tolerate this kind of environment and still thrive. Trees that are knocked partially or all the way over can sprout, sometimes giving rise to several trees. Photo by Chris Tebbutt.

This tree is the same as in Picture #1 and shows a retreating bank before additional buttressing with vegetated hard points. The raw cutbank poses a high risk of loss of additional agricultural land if not protected. Photo by Chris Tebbutt.

These are experimental willow cross baffles that were erected in late 1994 to attempt to trap sediment and further constrict the river channel. This mid-1990's photo shows willows, alder and cottonwood getting established on the lower Tebbutt property, but the force of the water still threatens the riparian community and adjacent agricultural land. This photo shows the lower Tebbutt property looking downstream during high water, likely in early 1995. Note the lines of trees and early attempts to deflect the current with rock structures. Note the roof of the house in this photo and in Picture #2-3. The roof serves as a reference point photos of restoration through 2003 in subsequent Tours. Photo by Chris Tebbutt. 1995.
